Fundraising sensations the Thong Rangers drew eye-popping glances in Didcot as they pulled a monster truck through the town to raise money for five-month-old Thomas Dawson, who was born with flat-head syndrome.

The nine Thong Rangers raised more than £4,000 when they pulled the two-tonne truck four and a half miles from Didcot Hospital, to Didcot Parkway station and on to Sainsbury's and Tesco.

They then headed back up the Broadway and finished in the Waterwitch pub where they had a well-earned pint.

Thomas's 30-year-old mother, Joanna, said: "It was a fantastic day and we had a really good time.

"I was amazed to see the turnout and the support we had was overwhelming.

"We had people following us all around Didcot and lots of people stopping to watch."

Joanna, who heard about the Thong Rangers through a friend, said: "I'm really grateful to them, although it was quite funny trying to do a serious television interview with them in the background."

The Thong Rangers decided to pull the truck after hearing about Thomas, who was born with severe plagiocephaly and brachycephaly, commonly known as flat-head syndrome.

Phil Middleton, one of the Thong Rangers, said: "It was a really worthy cause and we were pleased to have helped.

"It was quite hard at times in the heat, particularly up by Sainsbury's, but we persevered and pulled together."

The family, from Didcot, want to raise £4,000 for Thomas's treatment and to make a donation to Plagio UK, which supports parents of babies with the syndrome.
