STICKER makers will be pulling into Oxford on a nationwide tour ahead of the World Cup.

Panini, creators of the official competition sticker album, will stop their tour bus at the Sainsbury’s store in Heyford Hill on Tuesday, May, 29.

Exact times for the visit have not been revealed but the bus will travel to Oxford after a stop in Milton Keynes on the same day.

Free 2018 edition sticker albums will be handed out and collectors will also have a chance to swap stickers with each other and watch ‘freestylers’ perform tricks with a football.

Founded in Italy in 1961 by brothers Benito and Giuseppe Panini, the group has made the World Cup album for every tournament since 1970.

Featuring 682 stickers of players, managers and stadiums taking part in the summer tournament, some estimates have put the cost of completing the album at £773.60.

This year a pack of five stickers has risen from 50p to 80p - a 60 per cent increase - but Panini says people can send off for missing stickers to reduce the cost.

During the 2014 tournament, the cost of filling the album proved so high for one East Oxford couple that they pledged to re-create it using their own hand-drawn stickers.

The inexpertly created work of Iffley Road pair Alex and Sian Pratchett made headlines across the world.

They have promised to recreate the challenge for charity this year and will begin drawing when the tournament starts on June 14.

Mr Pratchett said he was looking forward to getting started, despite predicting it could take them more than 170 hours.

The new parents have not confirmed whether they will be attending the sticker tour to attempt to swap their handmade versions for the real thing.
