HANDMADE Oxford contemporary craft and design fair, which kicked off at Oxford Town Hall yesterday, continues today.

What's more, organisers from Handmade in Britain have already said the three-day event will ‘definitely’ be returning next year.

More than 90 designer-makers are exhibiting in the town hall until Sunday.

Organisers believe several hundred people attended yesterday – the first time the city has hosted the event.

A range of disciplines, including jewellery-making, silverware, glass, textiles and ceramics are on offer for visitors.

Creators are selling, taking commissions and telling visitors about the processes and ideas behind their one-off pieces.

Nicola Jell, marketing and communications manager for Handmade in Britain, said: “We have had such a good response that we will definitely be coming back next year.

“We have a really strong collection of jewellery and I know that has been going really well - we do have an excellent selection.”

Most of those showcasing usually only sell in galleries and exhibitions.

Oxford is the latest event to be added to Handmade in Britain’s series, which already boasts Handmade at Kew, Handmade Edinburgh and the flagship show – celebrating 11 years – Handmade Chelsea.

Tickets are available on the door, costing £7 for adults and £5 for concessions. Under-14s get in for free.

Two rooms – the main hall and assembly room – are being used for the event.

The show is open 11am to 6pm today and 11am to 5pm tomorrow.

Next year’s event is scheduled for May 17 - 19.
