OXFORD City Council leader Susan Brown has welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement that councils will be compensated for work to replace cladding following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Mrs May told MPs today that work nationwide would cost an estimated £400m.
The city council estimated it would cost £1m to replace cladding on Evenlode and Windrush Towers in Blackbird Leys following the blaze in London in June which left 71 people dead and hundreds homeless.
Ms Brown said: “We welcome the news as we have said all along that we think the Government should be footing the bill.
“We await the final details.”
