AN ENERGETIC crowd of fitness festival-goers sprinted and stretched around an Oxford school.

More than 850 people arrived at The Oxford Academy on Saturday for Fit Fest Oxford, billed as the county's biggest fitness and wellbeing festival.

The event on Saturday provided a packed sports programme including yoga classes, an athletics competition in the sports dome and a boxing match.

Its co-founder Paige Stead, a former Oxford United player from Cowley, said: "It went really well.

"We tried to capture lots of different audiences and we had people of all ages. We are definitely coming back next year, bigger and better.

"We have learnt so much from this year and didn't expect so much [interest]. It was almost overwhelming.

"We wouldn't have been able to do it without the volunteers, staff, venue and fitness brands that took time out and invested into it.

"People who came along are really what made it."
