AN ELDERLY woman had to be cut free by fire fighters after a two-car smash near Faringdon.

Police, fire and ambulance crews all attended the collision at the A4095 Radcot on Friday morning.

Fire crews from Witney fire station were called to the crash involving two vehicles shortly after 8am and were met by South Central Ambulance Service.

Occupants of one car had managed to climb out of their vehicle and fire fighters used specialist equipment to free the driver of the second car on arrival.

The woman was then taken to hospital.

The road was shut during the incident and station manager and incident commander Paul Webster has gone on to warn drivers to be wary of 'sun glare' while driving.

He said: “This was a considerable impact to both vehicles.

"I would like to take this opportunity to remind all road users to wear their seatbelts and to take extra care whilst driving on rural roads.

"Also just after sunrise and before sunset the sun can shine directly into drivers’ eyes, leaving many motorists driving with a glare.

"This glare can make it much harder to see the road ahead and potential hazards creating an added risk to drivers. When sun glare is an issue slow down and use extra caution.”

Thames Valley Police is now investigating the cause of the collision.
