ANOTHER call has been made to get people who cannot make it to their polling station when local elections are held in May to sign up for a proxy vote.

A proxy vote means another person can be appointed to vote on someone’s behalf at the polling station.

But those votes must be applied for by Wednesday at the latest.

Elections are being held in Oxford City, West Oxfordshire and Cherwell District Council areas on May 3.

To get a proxy vote, anyone applying for them must provide a reason for why they are not able to vote the standard way, on the day in a polling station.

The city council said earlier this week that there is no reason to miss out voting if you are not able to get to a polling station.

Anyone who is unable to vote after the close of the Wednesday deadline, because of unforeseen illness, physical incapacity or unforeseen work, may still be able to get a proxy for those reasons.

You can only vote by proxy if you are 18 or over and are registered to vote in the same election.
