A QUINTESSENTIALLY British affair is heading to one of the country’s most iconic palaces for a Great British Garden Party.

Organisers of Christmas at Blenheim have revealed their plans for the summer event, billed as ‘a unique opportunity to discover the palace’, bringing together 'all things British'.

The line-up includes everything from 'storytime with Mary Poppins in the secret garden' to a troupe of dancers showing off their footwork with the lindy hop, jive and waltz.

There will also be a charity cricket match featuring the youth cricket and disability sports charity Lord’s Taverners, commentated live by Test Match Special icon Henry Blofeld.

This video from Blenheim explains some of the attractions on offer.

Anthony Findlay, chief executive of organisers Raymond Gubbay, said: “It’s a huge privilege to be working with the fantastic team at Blenheim Palace once again.

“Putting Christmas together for the past couple of years has been immense fun and it’s wonderful to have now been given the opportunity to put together a very special summer weekend.

“There will be cricket on the lawn, a spitfire in the courtyard, music, song and dance, and my personal favourite strawberries and cream.

“What could be more traditional than a midsummer garden party, complete with firework finale, at Britain’s greatest palace.”

The Great British Garden Party will be held on Friday, July 13, and Saturday, July 14, at the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site in Woodstock.

Visitors will be able explore the palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, and saunter round the grounds while a charity cricket match will be staged on the Friday on the South Lawn, and visitors will be able to enjoy a glass of champagne and strawberries while listening to a string quartet.

The event will finish with an impressive fireworks finale in the Great Court following the red, white and blue theme.

It will be performed to words from Sir Winston, along with renditions of Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem and Elgar’s Nimrod.

The party will run from 6.30pm to 10pm both days and tickets will cost £26.50 for adults and £15 for children, prior to the day.
