FORCES will do battle on the rugby field today to attempt to win a trophy named after a local war hero.

Molly Rose delivered battle-ready planes to pilots during the Second World War and her name will now be remembered in perpetuity with the creation of the Molly Rose trophy.

RAF women will take on Royal Navy Women at Twickenham at 3.15pm to attempt to become the trophy's first winner.

The family of the pilot, who lived in Bampton and died in 2016 aged 95, will present the winner of the women’s inter-services rugby match with the trophy.

The match will be the first of an annual competition.
