AFTER seeing the article (Oxford Mail, April 10) regarding the traveller occupation of Bicester Park-and-Ride, I noted that the image from the drone showed all of the car parking spaces were arranged in even rows that were perpendicular to each other as is common in many car park around the country.
I started, about 35 years ago now, to realise that having the spaces ‘off-set’ or staggered would reduce the number of turns needing to be made by motorists and thus reducing fuel consumption pollution.
I am campaigning to have this system instated in more car parks as it will reduce air pollution in Oxford and also save motorists fuel. Having spaces staggered would also reduce the risk of cars being damaged or hit as motorists attempt to make manoeuvres in the car park to enter or leave a parking space. I think that this should be adopted in all park-and-ride car parks, and think that as the new multi-storey car park at Didcot has not yet been completed that this is something which they could implement before opening.
