LIFESAVERS working in the county's air ambulance service will star in a primetime television documentary.

A camera crew has gained rare insight into the lives of Thames Valley Air Ambulance employees, shadowing the skilled paramedics who attend emergencies via helicopter.

The television series, called Emergency Helicopter Medics, will be broadcast on Sunday at 9pm on the channel More4.

It depicts the work of the emergency services charity at the scene of a range of incidents across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

The episode is the first in the new series, which follows some of Britain's busiest air ambulance teams.

Amanda McLean, chief executive officer at Thames Valley Air Ambulance, said: "It was a privilege to be featured as part of this series.

"It shows how, together with our fellow emergency services, we make a difference when minutes matter.

"As a charity, it provides our supporters with true examples of how their generous donations help us to save lives."

She described the series as 'inspiring', adding: "I urge everyone across the region to watch the series and see our amazing crew deliver advanced care in a range of different emergencies."

The service is encouraging anyone moved by the programme to support the charity by donating £5, by texting TVEHM18 to 70070.

Sunday's episode will see teams treat a motorcyclist someone with a serious spinal injury, as well as a woman who was kicked in the face by her horse.

A trailer for the documentary shows a crew in the red and yellow Thames Valley Air Ambulance, coming in to land at the heliport at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The service's operational base is at RAF Benson in South Oxfordshire, where the helicopter is stationed.

Its training base and headquarters moved across the border to Buckinghamshire in February, as part of major expansion plans.

Air ambulance crews are trained to deliver advanced procedures such as on-scene surgery, and are often called to deal with serious crashes.
