A COURT order has been granted to Oxford City Council as it attempts to remove travellers who have been occupying a park and ride site for more than two weeks.

A group of around 36 caravans arrived at the Redbridge Park and Ride on March 10, one of a number of similar sites used by travellers in recent months.

This morning the council was granted a possession order in court.

It will now serve the order to the travellers and apply to bailiffs for an eviction warrant.

The council said it had begun legal proceedings 'immediately' but today was the earliest possible court date.

Councillor Alex Hollingsworth, Board Member for Planning and Regulatory Services said: "The Council has been working as fast as the court system will allow to bring this situation to a conclusion.

"It is extremely frustrating, despite having started legal proceedings as soon as the travellers moved onto Redbridge, that it has taken two weeks to get this far.

"I now look forward to the warrant for possession being served quickly so that this occupation can be ended."

Redbridge Park and Ride remains open to the public and the bus services are operating normally.
