OXFORDSHIRE'S MPs joined staff from the tourism industry to see how improvements are being made to help welcome visitors to the county.

As part of Visit England's national English Tourism Week, the politicians visited destinations including Broughton Castle, Oxford train station and the visitor information centre in Broad Street.

They saw new initiatives organised by Experience Oxfordshire including a new visitor guide, which has also been translated into Mandarin, and a 'welcome to Oxford and Oxfordshire video', which is playing on Park-and-Ride services.

New trains running on the Great Western Railway network and a £4.5million investment in the park-and-ride fleet is also adding to the improved welcome, according to tourism bosses.

In north Oxfordshire, Victoria Prentis MP welcomed a group of 120 Chinese visitors to Broughton Castle with refreshments and copies of the new visitor guide.

Whilst Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds met staff at the Oxford Visitor Information Centre to provide advice to visitors from the UK and overseas on what to see and do in Oxford.

And Layla Moran MP for Oxford West and Abingdon spent time at Oxford station and welcomed visitors with copies of the new visitor guide.

Phil Southall, managing director of Oxford Bus Company, said: "Oxford is a world-class city, so it's only right that we welcome visitors with a fitting transport experience."

Oxfordshire welcomes 27.6million visitors every year.
