A TEENAGER lunged at a man outside a primary school before stabbing him in the chest with a kitchen knife, a court heard.

Cameron Riordan, of Coriander Way, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, denies one count of wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

The 19-year old is alleged to have carried out the attack in an alleyway next to Blackbird Leys's Northfield School on June 20 last year.

Taking to the witness box as the trial began at Oxford Crown Court yesterday the alleged victim told the jury of six men and six women that the afternoon attack had come out of nowhere.

Kristian Maroney told the court that he had been at the alleyway between the primary school and Skylark Place with three friends when one of them raised the alarm.

He said: "I heard [a friend] shout 'watch out' and as I turned around I saw Cameron with a big kitchen knife in his hand.

"I turned around because he was coming from behind. All I noticed was a big knife in his hand that he was holding at my face."

He told the court that despite one of his friends trying to 'grab' Riordan and another getting in his way he 'lunged' and struck him in the chest with the blade - described as a black handled 7 inch kitchen knife.

Jurors went on to hear that none of the men had contacted police and neighbours instead raised the alarm.

Mr Maroney was eventually found at nearby Littlemore before he was treated for what hospital staff described as a 'superficial' wound which required stitching.

The trial continues.
