A fresh warning has been issued by the Met Office for ice across the county, with the new warning coming into effect at 7pm tonight as temperatures fall again.

Police warned people to take care on the roads this weekend

, although not everyone paid attention, with several arrests in Abingdon on Saturday night for drink driving.

Traffic was severe in Chipping Norton and Burford, after a lorry jackknifed across the A424 at Fifield, close to the Gloucestershire border.

There was also a three-vehicle crash outside Harwell Campus near Chilton, causing a lengthy closure on Newbury Road.

One driver had a lucky escape near Bicester after veering off an icy M40 slip road and crashing down a steep verge, causing the car to burst into flames.

A yellow Met Office weather warning for ice is still in place across the entire region.

Oxford Mail:

This is due to be lifted at 11am on Monday morning, when temperatures are expected to start creeping up.

Several inches of snow settled in the city.

Oxford Mail:

Oxfordshire County Council has been gritting the main routes across the county, and said its teams have salted the roads more than 60 times this year.

Unsurprisingly our gritters will be going out again this evening with temps remaining very low and an obvious risk of icy conditions continuing into the morning. Please do take care out there on the roads. More here https://t.co/bDiOI6je9s pic.twitter.com/9NpQdiMgfK
