AN ESCAPE room experience which sees people attempt to solve clues and puzzles to get out of locked room could be coming to the Westgate Centre.

Escape Hunt, which has 250 branches worldwide across six continents, wants to set up in Oxford.

The concept sees groups locked in a room for 60 minutes with a series of clues and puzzles they need to solve to escape.

Hundreds of different games would be available with groups becoming British secret agents or even Japanese samurai warriors as they race against the clock.

According to the company website it is 'coming soon' to Oxford and the firm has submitted a premises licence application to the city council.

The plans revealed the company wanted to sell alcohol in a designated area outside the rooms themselves.

Escape Hunt Ltd said serving alcohol was 'part of the overall experience', which was popular with corporate clients.

The firm first launched in Bangkok in 2013.

From there it has spread across the world to Sydney, Paris, Dubai and Houston.

Its first UK branch opened in Birmingham earlier this week.

The Oxford branch is expected to open in the coming months and it would be the second of its kind in the city, after City Mazes at the Kassam Stadium.

Oxford City Council is expected to make a decision on the proposals in April - to comment on the consultation, which ends on April 9, go to oxford.gov.uk and search for the planning reference 18/01088/PREM.
