A MAN accused of a double murder at a Banbury flat was described in court yesterday as a 'warm hearted' man but with a serious drug addiction.

Raymond Morgan, of Newland Road, Banbury, denies two counts of murder.

The 53-year old is alleged to have killed Mark Pawley, 25, and Adrian Fannon, 39, at his home address on the morning of October 1 last year.

As his trial at Oxford Crown Court continued yesterday, jurors heard from one of the dead men's friends - Paul Wyeth, who appeared live via videolink from HMP Bullingdon.

Quizzed by prosecutor Adrian Redgrave QC he told the court: "I knew Ray, he took me off the streets, he let me stay there.

"From what I knew of Ray he is a warm hearted guy but when you are cracked out of your mind drugs make you do silly things."

The court heard that Morgan's flat - in which he is alleged to have stabbed the two men to death, was a hive of fellow drug addicts who would come around at various times of the day and night.

The two men suffered at least 30 stab wounds between them during the alleged onslaught. Body worn footage played to the jury depicted the living room of the flat in disarray.

Blood spatters were seen on the walls, the floor and on furniture, some of which had been smashed and scattered about the flat.

Earlier in the trial Morgan’s daughter Mary Allen, said that her dad had first moved into the flat at Newland Road, Banbury, after he was kicked out of his partner’s home in light of a growing addiction to crack cocaine.

Morgan denies the two charges of murdering the men and the trial continues.
