SOME unusual tourists enjoyed the sites of central Oxford recently.
Ponies Vera and Slim admired the Radcliffe Camera, the Bodleian libraries and paraded up and down Cornmarket street on Thursday.
They were brought into the city centre by Oxford University Equestrian Club (OUEC), to launch its inaugural US Tour.
Sporting Oxford blue, the ponies happily posed for photos with students and residents as they munched on carrots.
OUEC president Priyanka Harley said: "Our aim in bringing the ponies to Oxford was both to raise the profile of the club with regards to the upcoming tour but also to raise awareness of the club within Oxford.
"And hopefully encourage potential sponsors to consider assisting us in our aim to get the team to the USA and to grow the wider club as much as we can."
In September, OUEC will embark on a tour of the East Coast American universities, competing against American students in show jumping and dressage in the Glenavadra Cup.
The club is trying to raise as much of the total cost of the tour as possible to ensure that it is as accessible as possible to members of the tour squad.
