A THUG who set a dog on two police officers who were trying to arrest him for assaulting his partner has been jailed.

Frank English, of Fulmer Close, Hampton, was set to stand trial for the violence against the woman outside a Blackbird Leys pub as well as against two police officers outside an address at White House Road.

In a last minute change of heart the 46-year old admitted one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of affray, one count of making a threat to kill and another of perverting the course of justice.

Oxford Crown Court heard yesterday that English had been out at The Blackbird pub on the night of March 11 last year when local residents spotting him assaulting a woman.

The court heard that the woman, who was his partner, was pushed to the ground and landed hard on her jaw.

When police came to his uncle’s address at White House Road to arrest him the following day, the two female officers were forced to call for back up when it became clear he was being ‘intimidating.’

While outside English then emerged from the house with a Staffordshire bull terrier and told it to ‘go and get them’ before a scuffle ensued.

Prosecutors said that the officers both sustained bite injuries and that one officer was accidentally sprayed in the eyes by her fellow officer during the fight.

The court also heard that later, while out on bail, English continued to harass his victim, making threats to kill her and demanding she drop the charges against him.

Jailing English, Record Nigel Daly said: “You have behaved in an aggressive and violent way. Your record indicates that you are aggressive and violent not only to your partner but to others and to police officers.”

English was jailed for a total of 36 months for the four offences.
