A MAJOR route through the city was shut this morning after police were scrambled to a 'fear for welfare' incident.
Oxford's Magdalen Bridge was closed at about 7.40am after concerns were raised over the welfare of an unidentified man at the bridge.
Officers attended and the situation was brought under control.
Thames Valley Police spokesperson Hannah Jones said of the incident: "TVP was called to a report of a fear for welfare incident at Magdalen Bridge, High Street, Oxford, today at 7.40am.
"Officers attended as they were concerned for the welfare of a man and the bridge was closed while they were in attendance.
"The incident was safely resolved and the bridge has since been reopened."
