OXFORD United and Charlton Athletic will use their match this afternoon to promote better diversity in the sport - including battling homophobia.

The teams, who kick off at The Valley at 3pm, are playing their game as part of this year's Football vs Homophobia Month of Action which runs through February.

The fixture will include a photo exhibition in the Fans' Bar from Charlton fan Tom Dingley dedicated to the cause.

Mr Dingley is showing the results of his Outcome project photographing LGBT people showing their hobby or passion whilst holding childhood photos, with the aim of showing that life can get better as an LGBT person.

Charlton Athletic Community Trust Invicta player manager Gary Ginnaw told the Football Vs Homophobia project: "It's a great cause, it makes such a massive difference in this day and age: homophobia's still a massive issue in football."

Football Vs Homophobia was launched in 2010 in memory of Justin Fashanu, who committed suicide in 1998.

It now describes itself as 'an international initiative that exists to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation gender identity and expression at all levels of football'.
