A 53-year-old man has been jailed for seven years and nine months for sex offences involving children.

Stephen Foster, of Woodstock Road, Charlbury, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on January 17.

He was also given a ten year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for an indefinite period.

Foster pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and was found guilty by unanimous jury of four counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of voyeurism, following a seven day trial.

The offences took place in Oxfordshire between 2013 and 2015. The sexual activity and voyeurism offences involved a girl.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Rebecca McLeod of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit based at Banbury police station, said: "Stephen Foster clearly had an unnatural interest in young girls and admitted to viewing indecent images of children.

"He then proceeded to commit sexual offences against a girl who had the courage to come forward and report the offences. It was only as a result of the victim's strength and courage that Foster has been convicted.

"The victim has to live with the psychological scars of what Foster did to her and I hope that the conviction will go some way in helping her rebuild her life and have the future she deserves.

"This was a long and complex investigation which has taken more than two years of joint work between the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, the Hi-Tech Crime Unit and the Crown Prosecution Service to ensure that Foster is where he belongs."
