A COMMUNITY arts centre will learn next week whether an application to knock music studios down and replace them with two new offices will be approved.

The Ark T Centre, in Crowell Road in Cowley, wants planning permission to demolish three existing timber sheds in its back garden and replace them with timber cabins.

They would measure 4.5m by 3.5m and would be a maximum of 2.5m tall.

Each of the pine cabins would feature a mono-pitched roof and would have double doors and glazing.

The site shares a boundary with a home – but because the cabins will be used as offices the council said it does not think the development would mean any 'unacceptable noise or disturbance' to the residents.

The centre runs a number of after school art clubs and supporters include Oxford City Council, Children in Needs and the High Sheriff's Community Integration Award.

It says that it provides a 'safe and nurturing space for young people experiencing challenges and would benefit from being part of a small creative group.'

Councillors on the city council's East Area planning committee will make a decision on the application at a meeting at Oxford Town Hall next Wednesday.

The application will be heard at the committee because the Liberal Democrat group leader Andrew Gant is the chairman of the centre's trustees.

The meeting will start in the Old Library in the Town Hall from 6pm.
