OXFORD University staff look set to walk out of work over 14 days in February and March as a row over pensions continues.

The university is one of 61 institutions across the country which will see staff first walk out on Thursday, February 22. The strike will continue onto Friday, February 23.

The University and College Union (UCU) said plans to end the defined benefit element of the Universities Superannuation Scheme pensions scheme could leave the average lecturer almost £10,000 a year worse off in retirement.

A three-day strike has now also been set for Monday, February 26 until Wednesday, February 28.

Other action, including a four-day strike, is planned from Monday, March 5 until Thursday, March 8.

And then a five-day strike has been called from Monday, March 12 until Friday, March 16.

The university was unable to confirm how many staff it expects to take part.

Spokesman Stephen Rouse said: “Teaching in colleges will not be affected but it is possible that some departmental teaching may be.

Students should attend all teaching as normal, unless advised of alternative arrangements.”
