FINAL results have been published today for Oxfordshire's GCSE and A-Level performance.

Provisional data published in August suggested the 2017 cohort in Oxfordshire had weathered the storm of controversial reforms at GCSE and A-Level.

The Department for Education has now released updated figures for the county, which does show a decline in GCSEs - though it said this was expected due to changes in the system.

At GCSE, the Government has two headline measures: Attainment 8, which is pupils' average achievement across eight core subjects, and Progress 8, which shows pupils' improvement (or decline) since starting secondary school.

In Oxfordshire the average Attainment 8 score in 2017 was 47.6, down from 50.4 the previous year.

This is still above the national average of 44.6, however.

The county's average Progress 8 score was 0.0, which is better than the national average of -0.03, but slightly worse than Oxfordshire's 2016 score of 0.01.

The top-performing schools in terms of Attainment 8 were d'Overbroeck's, with a score of 62, and The Cherwell School with 59.1.

The Cherwell School also topped the table for Progress 8, at 0.68, with The Oxford Academy close behind at 0.51, followed by Didcot Girls' School at 0.34.

At A-Level, the measure often used for comparison is average point score (APS) per entry, where each A-Level grade is given a number of points and an average is taken of the total.

This year Oxfordshire's APS across state secondary schools and colleges was 30.93, equivalent to a C grade - below the national average of 32.39, but better than last year's county APS of 30.21.

The top 13 APS figures in the county overall were all private schools, with The Cherwell School again placing as top state school, with an APS of 37.77.
