INSPECTORS have revisited an 'inadequate' Oxford school to check on progress.

Ofsted carried out a monitoring inspection of St Gregory the Great Catholic School last week, and is due to publish a report on inspectors' observations within two weeks.

It will not give a new rating, but will identify if the school is doing enough to improve.

The East Oxford all-through school was placed in special measures after a highly critical Ofsted report last May.

This month it announced its principal and deputy principal had gone 'on leave', attracting fresh concerns about its future.

In a newsletter to parents dated Friday, acting head of school Sean Tucker wrote: "I am limited by what we can say until the report is officially published.

"I would like to say that there are a good number of positives that we can take forward as well as there being areas identified for improvement.

"We are on the right path and improvements are being made.

"Thank you to everyone for working hard and showing that we can make a real difference to our young people's lives.

"We all should be immensely proud of our school and have much to celebrate."
