AN OXFORD man faces a fine or prison sentence if he is found begging anywhere within the city.

Adam Bloor, of Friars Wharf, Oxford appeared at Oxford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where he was issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order.

The order was sought after he was found on multiple occasions begging since June 2017.

It prohibits him from begging anywhere within Oxford as defined by the ring road.

Breach of any of these conditions could result in a fine or imprisonment.

Sergeant Peter Neale, based at Oxford police station, said: "The CBO is the culmination of a prosecution pathway, under the Street Wise Initiative, where officers from the City Council Street Ambassador and Community Response teams work in partnership with Thames Valley Police.

"The initiative aims to identify persistent beggars and make attempts to connect them with homelessness support services, tenancy sustainment teams at Oxford City Council, homelessness outreach teams and other vital services to the homeless and vulnerably housed.

"The issuing of this CBO, along with our partnership work demonstrates our commitment to reducing anti-social behaviour in Oxford and protecting the most vulnerable people in our communities."
