TWO police officers seriously injured in a crash at the beginning of the year are now out of hospital and recovering at home.

They were responding to an emergency call in a police car at 11.40am on January 2 when it collided with a taxi and then another vehicle on the A4130 near Crowmarsh Hill.

Both officers and a taxi driver were seriously injured in the crash, which was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, formerly the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Chairman of the, Thames Valley Police Federation Craig O’Leary, revealed that, while the officers involved still have a long way to go, they are now making the journey to recovery at home.

Mr O’Leary said: “They’re both out of hospital now and recovering at home. They’re still having weekly appointments because they got some nasty injuries.

“It will be several months before they are fit enough to come back to work.”

Several days after the incident took place, the Oxford Mail revealed that Go Green taxi driver Neil Chalmers had undergone 10 hours of surgery.

In the same statement, the company said: “He would like to say thank you for the outpouring of love that he has received, please be assured that we will pass on any messages of goodwill to Neil.”

The driver of the third vehicle involved in the crash was treated for minor injuries.

South Central Ambulance Service sent six vehicles to the scene.
