Government reveals UFO sightings

Defence chiefs remain "open-minded" about life on other planets after revealing they logged more than a dozen UFO sightings above Oxfordshire in eight years.

Government files yesterday highlighted the number of sightings in the county reported by the public to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) between 1998 and 2006.

There have been three sightings in Oxford during the period, including a bright white halo seen heading north west in 2001.

City sightings also included an oval object with green, red and blue flashing lights spotted in 2000 and a spinning oval with about 250 lights reported in 1998.

In total, 13 reports had been logged with the MoD and the biggest year for sightings was the millennium, when four separate reports were recorded.

The most recent incident was of a structure which glinted like metal, spotted above Banbury in June last year.

Elsewhere, in June 2001, an object four times the size of a star was spotted shining brightly as it moved north over Eynsham.

Two months later, a person in Chipping Norton reported several very bright purple, green and white objects in the sky.

While in February 1998, a witness reported a very large object like a firework rocket descending over the A34 near Abingdon.

But UFO expert Michael Soper, from Marston, in Oxford, a member of the Contact International UFO research group, believes there have been hundreds of sightings in the skies above the county over the same period.

He said: "People here do report things relatively readily and state very closely what they see and with no embellishment at all."

He added that a family from Faringdon had notified him of a particularly nasty alien abduction, while Uffington and the Rollright Stones were known as 'window areas' because so many UFOs are spotted there.

He said: "Oxford gets exciting reports of objects in the sky and there are several reports of abductions in Oxfordshire."

Frances Morrill, 51, of Eynsham, saw a large orange and pink sphere above Wytham Woods in the late 1970s which she believes was a UFO.

She said: "It has stayed with me today. I know other people who have said they saw things up there.

"I think it's all kept secret because no one wants to scare us to death. I always keep my eye on the sky and haven't seen anything else - and I don't want to."

The MoD is preparing to publish all UFO files dating back to 1967, including witness reports of apparent UFO sightings - many by civil pilots and military personnel.

A spokesman for the MoD said: "We do not have any expertise or role in respect of UFO matters - or to the question of the existence or otherwise of extra-terrestrial life forms - about which we remain totally open-minded."

The MoD examines reports to see if UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity.

The MoD said "rational explanations" - such as aircraft lights-- could be found if resources were pointed in the right direction.

Er, why is he referred to as an expert? What qualifications does one need to be classed as an authority on UFOs? Undergoing abduction and probing??

Stop reporting sightings of our spacecraft or you will be abducted and tickled relentlessly.

You have been warned.

The truth as we know it in 2007..........

(1)Is there life in other parts of the universe?

most likely yes if you consider the number of planets stars etc that there are,it would be very unlikely for there not to be other life out there.

(2)Are their aliens flying around our skies?

I have had the pleasure of spending a night in the Nevada desert outside AREA 51 which is well known for reported "UFO" activity.

are there aliens there?
not at all, this is the place where they tested the Stealth bomber for many years before we all know about it.They now are testing the Aurora there.Supported by weather photograph taken outside Vegas in 2005 which shows Aurora unique flying pattern.

I personally witnessed bright lights and lots of activity in the desert that night.......due to an F16 having a simulated dogfight with a Mig fighter jet over the desert.Sensitive in the fact that a Mig was used.........China,R
ussia still use them.Your friends today may not be so in the future.

Some people speculate that the Aurora is being used over U.K airspace with the full knowledge and blessing of the U.K government.Very likely at Air force bases in our region.

Most likely secret flying projects like the Aurora etc are responsible for "UFO" sightings over the U.K.

I keep and open mind and do hope we are not alone but most "UFO"'s are seen near militart installations i.e AREA 51,Roswell,American bases in the U.K? which would partially explain it.

But never say never...............

Nope, just a beard, a woolly jumper, and a dustbin lid hanging from your washing line.

Are the UFO watchers the same people who claim to have seen wild beasts roaming the countryside?

So many of the sightings worldwide are just that... visuals. If they occur in areas with radar coverage they should be dismissed unless the SUBSTANCE of a radar return is correlated. I "believe" but I am also have a degree in physics and a former technical career. I know radar correlated sightings HAVE occurred... let's concentrate on the harder evidence cases such as these. I think we are in for an interesting decade now that governments are making (coordinated?) disclosures.

Come on surely everyone knows that the US military downed a ET craft near roswell with a new pencil beam radar and have been back engineering them ever since. There's a huge amount of witness testimony to back it up. Check out some amazing military and civilian testimony at the Disclosure Project. Col Philip Corso's book 'The day after Roswell' states that while he was at the pentagon he personally supervised the back engineering of night vision the microchip and lasers. He is, who he says he is, wake up people.
Also a big thanks to the mail for the flood coverage spot on

And presumably time travel. At least two of these items were direct developments of technology which was around in 1930.

I much prefer David Icke's theory that Dubya and Tony are reptilian shape-shifters. It's so obvious, isn't it?

Funny stuff. Until you realize the national security implications virtually going on over your heads. Read UFOs and the National Security State. Read Above Top Secret. Read the Project Blue Book unexplained cases. Read the numerous official files released (British and American) on military sightings of UFOs (including Bentwaters). Some near nuclear weapon installations and over nuclear bomber bases. In one instance apparently deactivating a number of missles, a feat that is supposed to be electronically impossible as a safe-guard. Sightings that have never been adaqutely or justifiably explained because of the obvious security breaches that occurred. Radar, ground, pilot confirmed sightings. Because UFOs are rare like ball lightning sightings, it doesn't mean they are all military craft or natural phenomonea. The only person who would say it has all been explained is a fool .

I believe thet there are Aliens, I know how to deaw them out in the open. I know that there attracted to Tunderstorms, they seem to like the lighting. I have an invention that I have been working on it makes Massive lighting light a lighting storm. If we could create that grom the ground to shoot up lighting bolts up into the sky then they will come to the lighting. It seems as tho there collecting the energy for some reason.
