A PROMISING athlete who ran for Oxfordshire has been jailed after he sexually abused a 13-year old girl.

Jordan Dorrian, who was a sprinter with Radley Athletics Club and is of Springfield Road, Wantage, admitted one count of sexual activity with a child and another of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The 23-year old showed no emotion as he was jailed at Oxford Crown Court yesterday for his relationship with the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The court heard he first contacted his victim on Facebook and Snapchat in March 2015 when she asked if anybody could ‘get served', referring to the purchase of alcohol.

Dorrian, aged 20 at the time, responded and told her he could and the pair soon embarked on a sexual relationship. On one occasion he was sent indecent photographs of her on a mobile phone.

During the affair he also sent her messages threatening that if she told anybody he would leave her.

In a string of messages read to the court he also expressed anger on learning that she was 13, telling her he thought she was at least 14 years old.

Prosecuting, Isabel Delamere, said the girl finally reported the ordeal because of his ‘controlling behaviour’ and said he was ‘well aware’ of her age.

In a victim personal statement the girl said that she had been ‘emotionally destroyed’ as a result of the ordeal and had since suffered from anxiety and depression.

In mitigation, Darren Samat, said of his client: “He is a man of previous good character and [there was] a lack of maturity on his part.

"He has thrown away a promising career, working at the moment at a nuclear waste disposal installation.

“He is also an accomplished athlete, having represented club, county and national level at 200m. He wishes me to express his considerable regret and remorse.”

Dorrian was jailed for 52 months and must pay a victim surcharge.
