A DRINK driver fatally careered into a roundabout in 'thick fog' after an alcohol-fuelled night out in Oxford.

Katarzyna 'Kasia' Prokop, 32, was more than double the legal alcohol limit when she smashed into Asthall Barrow Roundabout near Witney.

The chocolate factory worker's Mini Cooper was found crumpled next to a tree on the roundabout, Oxford Coroner's Court heard, having crashed through road signs and vegetation.

The collision happened at about 5.30am on Sunday, August 6, and her best friend Katarzyna Piechowska - the only passenger - survived.

Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter described her death as 'sad and unfortunate'.

Addressing her brothers and friends at her inquest yesterday, he added: "The major cause was intoxication: she was more than two and a half times the limit."

The court heard Miss Prokop, of Nobles Close near Botley, died on impact of severe head injuries.

Ms Piechowska said they had parked in St Giles on Saturday night before eating dinner on George Street, moving to a bar then a club.

Her statement, read to the court, said: "She was her normal self, laughing and dancing through the night."

She said she could not remember leaving or why they did not get a taxi home.

Polish-born Miss Prokop had been driving west on B4074 Burford Road, but it is unclear where she was going.

The court heard there was 'thick fog' and poor visibility.

Mr Salter recorded a verdict of road traffic collision.
