GENEROUS council staff donated a mammoth 250kg of goods to local food banks when they took part in this year's Christmas jumper day.

The annual fundraiser, in which people are encouraged to wear their most festive knits for charity, saw staff at Cherwell District Council also donate non-perishable food and other items to local food banks on Friday, December 15.

The 250kg haul of food was donated by workers at Cherwell District Council and South Northamptonshire Council who then split it between five local food banks.

Cherwell Leader, councillor Barry Wood, said: “The council is like any other work place, our staff work hard all year long and it was nice to have a bit of fun while doing something good for the community we serve.”

The collection of food was split between Food Banks in Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington, Brackley and Towcester.
