A DRIVER managed to escape the wreckage of their car after driving it off the motorway before it flipped onto its roof.

Fire crews have stressed the importance of taking care in winter conditions after they were called to the crash at junction 10 of the M40 at 11.30am on Friday.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said the driver managed to escape the car without the help of firefighters.

Trauma trained firefighters checked the driver’s medical condition while others made the vehicle safe.

The car and debris was cleared away from the motorway swiftly to get traffic moving as quickly and safely as possible.

Thames Valley Police are investigating the causes of the crash.

Group Manager Simon Belcher said: “This is a timely reminder that as the weather gets colder and wetter and the sun is lower in the sky the roads will become more dangerous.”
