SMALL companies are set to ‘thrive’ with the help of a new three-year business plan announced by South Oxfordshire District Council.

The authority will launch its Business and Innovation Strategy Action Plan 2017-2020 on January 9 in Wallingford.

The free event will be held from 5.30pm at The Old Counting House, a centre for small businesses.

The council’s business team and councillor Robert Simister have said they will be ‘engaging with businesses and discovering the opportunities and challenges they face to gain a healthier understanding of their needs’.

Mr Simister said: “Small and medium businesses make up 82 per cent of all employment in our district and the action plan demonstrates our commitment to support local enterprises to boost the local economy.

“If you are considering starting a business, growing your business or need a point in the right direction, I encourage you to contact us for support and advice.”

The action plan outlines four actions to benefit small businesses.

The first is ‘Superfast Broadband’, in which the authority has already invested £1m. It says it is now ‘working with businesses to identify where the service needs improving’.

The other three action points are ‘business space’, ‘skills and employment’ and ‘business support and communication’.
