CLANFIELD 85 ran riot to beat basement boys Tytherington Rocks 7-1 in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One West.

In the same fixture 12 months ago, the Rocks claimed their first win of the season, but lightning did not strike twice.

After early chances went begging, defender Ryan Moore showed Clanfield’s attacking players how it was done with a close-range finish.

His ball forward then paved the way for Zac Oliver to add a second goal before the break.

It took just two minutes of the second half for the visitors to add a third goal, when Callum Miller teed up Joe Hiscock to fire high into the net.

Hiscock added another seven minutes later to make it 4-0.

Adam Pendell and an own goal stretched the lead further, before the Rocks scored a consolation through Jordan Walker.

The rout was completed in the final minute by Andy Barton on his first-team debut.

Clanfield, whose next league game is at Shrivenham next Tuesday, climbed to sixth as a result of the victory.

North Leigh’s home game with Yate Town in the Evo-Stik South League West Division was frozen off on Saturday.

It meant John Brough’s men were unable to build on the momentum gained by the 1-0 midweek victory at Paulton Rovers.

Joe Guest’s own goal on 61 minutes proved decisive in a game which was delayed after the referee was stuck in traffic.

The Millers, who were due to visit Cirencester Town last night, host Swindon Supermarine on Saturday.
