STUDENTS at an Oxford University college have said they will only put forward a team for University Challenge if they can find at least one woman to join them.
Young academics at Wadham College previously held trials for a women-only team but said they were so poorly attended they were forced to put together a men-only team.
Now students at Wadham have voted that at least one woman must be on the team or they will pull out of the competition.
A vote was formally taken on Sunday evening following a debate about the issue.
One of the four men selected for the team has also stood aside to allow a woman to take his place.
Wadham held its women-only trials after the BBC quiz show's host Jeremy Paxman made a barbed comment when St Hugh's - which was founded as a women-only college - fielded an all-male team.
