EIGHT new jobs have been created by Belgian chocolatier Godiva, which opens its new Westgate Centre store today.

The chain is opening its first boutique outside the capital.

Several more Godiva stores will follow in different locations across the UK in the next 12 months.

Godiva’s chief executive officer Burak Elmas, said of the launch: “The UK is one of the few major countries in the world that Godiva doesn’t currently have a true national presence, but we’re on a mission to change that, and opening these new boutiques across the country forms a major part of that plan.

“Godiva is always looking to reach new consumers, and through expanding our presence across the UK, more of Britain’s chocolate lovers can enjoy what is largely regarded as some of the best confectionery in the world. “This coming year is set to be Godiva’s biggest to date in the UK, and we can’t wait for what’s in store.”

Shoppers can take home Godiva’s luxurious chocolate collections, including seasonal offerings, and boutique staff will be trained to guide consumers through the luxury Belgian chocolates available, provide advice on how to taste chocolate, and offer a guide to the best chocolates for every occasion.

Godiva launched in Belgium in 1926.
