A NEW shop could open in the city as Westgate Oxford gets rid of its marketing suite opposite the centre.

Albion House in Littlegate Street has been used a base for the shopping centre's owners and marketing team.

It could open as a retail unit in the new year if plans are approved.

It was used as a meeting place for prospective retailers interested in moving into the £440m centre, which opened last month.

A planning application lodged last week revealed the company - a partnership of Landsec and The Crown Estate - will no longer need the space in the coming months.

The centre opened with less than half of the 125 units ready but it is believed that around 90 per cent have been filled.
