OXFORD’S most notorious dine and dash conman is again behind bars after he binged on poppadoms and curry before making off without paying.

Eric Austin, of no fixed abode, is already banned from every eatery in Oxford and many restaurateurs have been warned of his prolific offending after a spate of similar offences.

The 47-year old has again been jailed by Oxford magistrates for making off without paying after scoffing Nepalese cuisine at Kadai N Naan, Cowley Road, East Oxford.

Austin admitted at Oxford Magistrates' Court breaching a criminal behaviour order by ordering a meal at the restaurant with no intention of paying and dishonestly obtaining services on October 14.

He was jailed for eight weeks and must also pay a victim surcharge of £115 and compensation to the East Oxford restaurant of £76.85.

Austin was jailed for 12 weeks a year ago after a spree of ordering food without paying at various eateries across the city.

In May of last year he ran off after working his way through the menu at George Street’s Pint Shop before taking on Cowley Road’s Kazbar and racking up a £55 bill, before targeting Jericho’s Mezzeto the same week.

At the time Oxford anti-social behaviour officer Mike Ellis said he was glad to see Austin get his just dessert with a jail term and said: “He is an incorrigible offender who continues to take advantage of restaurants and hotels around Oxford.”

Meanwhile, one restaurant manager at the new Westgate shopping centre has warned that despite the prolific offender’s penchant for Oxford grub, owners at the centre had not yet been warned.

Assistant manager at Pizza Pilgrims Ricardo Castagno, 26, said: “This is the first I have heard of him. We have had a few people come in and try to take things but its not something that happens on a regular basis.

“It's something to keep an eye on. We would warn others to watch out for him.”

“We are pleased with the sentence, now they should just get him out of Oxford completely.”
