A DRUG dealer who was found with more than 50 wraps of heroin when police raided his home investigating an allegation of assault has been jailed.

Kyle Williams, of Coriander Way, Greater Leys, Oxford, admitted a single count of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

The 25-year old, Oxford Crown Court heard at his sentencing on Wednesday, was only caught after police turned up to investigate the separate charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

During the raid on June 1 they found Williams upstairs in the loft and, on searching the property, they discovered a cache of drug paraphernalia including three mobile phones, £216 in cash and 53 wraps of heroin.

On analysing the mobile phones, police discovered text messages suggesting drug deals being agreed, including one which read '7W 3D' or 'seven white [cocaine] and three dark [heroin]'.

The court heard that he also had a string of previous convictions including a similar matter for supplying class A drugs, as well as offences for violence and dishonesty.

In mitigation, Neil Davies praised his client for admitting responsibility for the drug dealing at the first opportunity and said that despite his offending he was an 'intelligent young man'.

He said: "He informs me that he left school with a number of qualifications.

"He appears to be an intelligent young man and left school with a number of GCSEs and has not been able to hold down employment because of the previous offending."

He added that the text messages found on the mobile phone were all to 'known contacts' suggesting street dealing and not drug dealing on a larger scale.

Jailing Williams, Judge Zoe Smith said: "In June of this year when police officers came to arrest you for a different matter they found you at your property with 53 wraps of [heroin], a working dealing phone and £216.

"Clearly you are dealing in class A drugs and this court sees on a daily basis people whose lives are catastrophically ruined by consuming drugs.

"The aggravating factor here is that on January 2013 you were sentenced for possessing controlled drug with intent to supply, and again it was heroin so this is a serious matter."

Williams was jailed for 40 months and must pay a statutory victim surcharge.
