A TEENAGER accused of stabbing a man in a Banbury knife attack claimed it was 'an accident' and he only meant to scare his victim.

Elliot Ashman, of Withycombe Drive, Banbury, took to the witness box as his trial at Oxford Crown Court continued yesterday.

The 19-year old denies assault by beating one alleged victim and threatening with a knife another on April 27.

He also denies wounding with intent Qais Ahmed at Withycombe Drive on the night of May 2 although he admitted a charge of possessing a knife and unlawful wounding for that incident earlier in the trial.

Speaking of the May incident in which Ashman was captured on CCTV leaping out of a car and chasing down Mr Ahmed with a blade he told jurors he just wanted 'to scare' his victim.

He said: "He would ring me and send me threats about my mum. He would say he was going to rape her."

Struggling to hold back tears Ashman told the court the abuse had been going on 'for months'.

He added: "I wanted to scare him because of all the threats and abuse he had done to me."

The stab wound was the result of an accident, he claimed, while he punched his victim while holding the blade.

Speaking of the incident a week earlier in which he is accused of punching a 17-year old multiple times before flashing a knife at another alleged victim he told jurors that he was not carrying a knife.

He added that he threw the punches because 'I felt like I had to defend myself.' The trial continues.
