A POPULAR swimming pool will close for a revamp next month.

The Didcot Wave will be shut from December 11 to 26 as improvement work gets under way.

South Oxfordshire District Council is investing more than £100,000 into the Wave to refurbish the poolside shower area and improve the changing and locker area in the pool hall.

The essential work will also see the flow of rain water from the roof of the building improved to stop it leaking in bad weather and the swimming pool air handling unit refurbished.

All other facilities at the centre, including the gym, will remain open as normal whilst the renovation works take place.

The pool is planned to reopen to the public on Wednesday December 27.

Cllr Lynn Lloyd, Cabinet Member for Leisure at South Oxfordshire District Council, said the work had been planned over the Christmas period because fewer swimming lessons take place during this time and so disruption would be limited.

She said: “This essential work will provide swimmers at Didcot Wave with improved changing and shower facilities, while also ensuring that the building is better protected from bad weather.

Alternative swimming options include the Abbey Sports Centre in Berinsfield and White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre in Abingdon.
