GROUPS opposed to Brexit gathered in Bonn Square and asked hundreds to back their cause yesterday.
The Oxford branch of the European Movement UK, along with members of Oxford for Europe and the Oxford European Association, gathered there from 1pm and handed about 200 fliers to people who passed by.
Jenifer Carpenter, the European Movement UK’s Oxford branch secretary, said: “People were draped in flags and European Union berets and placards and the appeal to Parliamentarians was read out.
“The European Movement is optimistic – we have to be.
“We are just trying to ensure people know [Brexit] is not a done deal.”
It had earlier said it was there to fight for the ‘poorest and others already paying the price for Brexit’, which could be completed by 2019 according to the Government’s schedule.
