THE husband of a British woman jailed in Iran has spoken to Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson about his wife’s plight.
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 38, has been held in jail in Tehran since last year after being falsely accused of spying and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
Husband Richard Ratcliffe has been campaigning for his wife’s release and family members supporting him include his aunt, Rosemary Gay, and her husband Colin, in north Oxford.
There were calls for Mr Johnson to resign after he mistakenly said that Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe had been in Iran training journalists.
Following a phone call with Mr Johnson on Sunday Mr Ratcliffe said: “He did promise to consider whether she would be eligible for diplomatic protection.”
Mr Ratcliffe said it would not be helpful for the Foreign Secretary to resign at this point.
