‘SIGNIFIGANT’ improvements have propelled a village preschool from a rating of ‘inadequate’ to ‘good’ in just four months.

Appleton Village Preschool near Abingdon has fulfilled Ofsted’s second-highest standard, not long after being slapped with the education regulator’s lowest rating earlier this year.

Inspectors wrote in a new report: “The committee, management and staffing team have made some significan improvements to the pre-school since the last inspection.

“They have met actions raised at the last inspection and demonstrate a strong drive to continually improve.raised at the last inspection and demonstrate a strong drive to continually improve.

“All children are progressing well from their starting points and are well prepared for their next stages in their learning.”

The report also noted children were ‘motivated’ and were encouraged by staff to be physically active.

The preschool is based at Appleton Village Hall and currently has 10 youngsters on its roll, down from 26 during the last inspection in May.

It was rated good in all categories following an inspection at the end of September.

The improvements come after the preschool was rated ‘inadequate’ in a report published in June.

It praised some positives but said weak leadership led to children’s safety being ‘compromised’, and also noted senior staff had failed to inform Ofsted about committee changes.
