RESIDENTS are being given a final chance to shape which developments are built in their local area over the next decades.

Both South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) and Vale of White Horse District Council published the final versions of their local plans yesterday.

These documents outline where thousands of new homes may be built in the rural districts as well as the new roads, workplaces and other infrastructure needed to support them.

A final six week consultation period will now be held before both plans are submitted to the government.

Any comments made at this stage will be seen by the planning inspector when they receive the plans.

The latest versions have been published after thousands of people and organisations submitted comments to previous drafts of the plans.

Councillor John Cotton, leader of SODC, said: "We went through all the comments received and we looked at them in detail and if appropriate we made modifications, changes and improvements.

"I am confident it is strong and sound and I expect the planning examiner will agree with me."

Councillor Roger Cox, of Vale council said: "Iā€™d strongly encourage anybody who wants the planning inspector to read their comments to do so now.ā€

A series of drop-in events will be held throughout October and November.
