AN inquest has opened into the death of Oxford University student Max Mian who was found at the Westgate shopping centre.

Oxford Coroner's Court heard today that Mr Mian's body was found lying on the ground in front of the John Lewis store on Monday, October 2.

Opening the inquest this morning, Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter referred to the tragedy as a 'sad case'.

He added that after death was certified at 7.07am Mr Mian, from Norwich, was identified by his parents later that day.

Mr Salter added: "The initial hypothesis is that he had fallen or jumped from the roof of the John Lewis building.

"It is not known as this time how he got onto the roof."

Mr Salter said the cause of death was multiple injuries.

Mr Mian attended Norwich School from 2006 to 2016 before going on to study classics.

He was in his second year at Brasenose College.

The inquest is expected to take place on February 15.
