MORE than £3,000 from the back of Oxfordshire's buses has been handed to charity.

All the loose change and unclaimed money handed in to Stagecoach Oxfordshire over the past 12 months has been donated after totting up an impressive £3,367.42.

The money was part of lost property kept by the bus companies for 28 days before being recycled or donated.

The company's charity champions presented the cheque to Helen and Douglas House this week.

Helen and Douglas House fundraising manager Lucy Walker said: "We were astonished that so much money had been left on the buses in Oxfordshire.

"We're really grateful to the entire team here at Stagecoach for choosing Helen & Douglas House.

"Whether it’s a five-pound note or a five pence piece, every penny counts in helping us to care for terminally ill young people.

"The charity relies on voluntary donations and I want to thank Stagecoach for their continuing contributions."

Stagecoach Oxfordshire business development manager Karen Coventry added: "It’s incredible to think such a lot of money gets left on the bus."
