STREET artists will get the chance to show off their work and stay on the right side of the law as part of a new project.

A free wall, where art can be legally painted, will be set up on hoardings that surround the former Murco Garage site in Between Towns Road, Cowley.

Oxford City Council is looking for residents’ views on what should feature, as part of an effort to encourage art that reflects Cowley and Oxford more generally.

A public consultation meeting will take place at the Ark T Centre in Crowell Road from 5pm until 6.30pm on Thursday.

Residents will be asked to suggest ideas for the artwork and anyone who wants to be involved in the 18-month plan is encouraged to attend the meeting.

City council executive board member for community safety, Councillor Tom Hayes, said: “The city council is eager to hear people’s thoughts on what Cowley means to them and I hope people come along and share suggestions.”
