STALLS overflowing with fresh produce lined the streets as an Oxford market marked a milestone.
Headington Market saw in its 10th anniversary on Saturday, celebrating with a visit from Lord Mayor of Oxford Jean Fooks.
Keith Frayn, vice-chair of voluntary group Headington Action, which founded the market, said the weekly event had ‘flourished’. He added: “It’s thriving again; it’s a real community market.”
The market declined a few years ago and it was feared it would fold, before trader Charlie Manning stepped up as its new manager.
She said: “Business was dipping and I was worried; we were down to about five stalls. But now we are running on about 20 - trade has picked up massively.”
Garsington resident Noel Donnelly, who has a plant stall at the market, said: “People in Headington have really embraced the market. I’ve got regular shoppers who come every week.”
